COVID-19 Notice

Oakdale Recreation is committed to following current Minnesota Department of Health and Center for Disease Control guidelines as they pertain to programs and activities. This includes group size, face coverings, and sanitation. To provide a safe and clean environment, we have limited program registrations and on-site participants. Detailed program procedures may be communicated prior to program start date and we will continue to update as more information is released. Email will be the primary form of communication from Oakdale Recreation. We're working toward a great, safe experience for you this winter.

Programs for the Kids

Mystery Egg Hunt

Saturday, April 3 | 9 AM – 12 PM | Discovery Center

Don’t miss the annual Mystery Egg Hunt! Find a hidden egg along the trails of the Oakdale Nature Preserve and redeem it for a special prize! Participants will stop along stations after finding their egg. The event this year has been modified to take place outdoors to minimize physical contact. Please register for a 30 minute time slot between the times of 9 AM to 12 PM. All registered participants will receive correspondence a week prior to the event with specific details. Registration deadline is March 26 or until full. $12 per child, parents attend free!

Curious Critters Club (Ages 3 to 6)

Select Friday mornings | 9:30 to 11 AM | Discovery Center

Children participate in nature themed discussions, play games, watch DVDs, and create projects. Register one week prior to class! $8 per class.

KidCreate Take Home Art Kits

Order now through April 30 | Discovery Center Pickup | Elementary aged kids, but with adult supervision, kits can also be used for preschoolers

At home art kits with online instructional videos are now available from KidCreate Studio! The kit contains an easy to follow lesson plan, a link to a correlating online instructional video taught by a KidCreate Studio art teacher, art materials needed to create one fridge-worthy masterpiece and additional suggestions for online learning that relate to the art lesson. Art Kits to choose from:

Aurora Borealis (Learn all about the Aurora Borealis, create a mixed media masterpiece)
Bunny Sunset (Learn to draw little bunnies, paint a warm sun setting sky)
Clay Coil Bowl (Use a special clay technique to build a unique creation)
Clay Mosaic (Create a mosaic out of air dry clay and beads)
Slime Time (Create one of our favorite messy times)
Snow Globe (Use several different types of clay along with glitter, beads, and more)
St. Paddy’s Day (Learn elements of color theory by painting a rainbow on a real canvas board)

After you've placed your order, kits will be available for pick up the following week beginning on Wednesday. $15 per kit.

KidCreate Studio - Mommy and Me Class - Mess Fest

Thursdays, April 8 through 29 | 9:30 – 10:30 AM | Discovery Center

Big mess means big fun! We'll make clay lions with magnificent manes, birds snuggled down in their nests, a silly green frog, and more! Your little one will love exploring and creating with clay, paint, and more at our best mess fest ever! Come and get messy right along with your child. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver. Registration deadline is April 1. $55 per child, includes caregiver.

Story Stroll: 10 Rules of Being a Superhero by Deb Pilutti

March 1 through 16 | During Park Hours | Oakdale Nature Preserve

Read a story, while taking a stroll through the Oakdale Nature Preserve with your kids! Story Strolls are free, self-guided, and brought to you in partnership with Washington County Libraries. It is a great way to enjoy the park, practice social distancing, and enjoy a great book!

Snow Sculpture Contest

Submit your snow sculpture now through March 31, 2021

Calling all creative Oakdale residents. Do you have what it takes to create the best snow sculpture in town? If so, head outside any time after a snowfall, and start constructing your masterpiece. All sculptures are judged on appearance, relative to the season’s theme.

This year’s theme is “Everyday Heroes”

Winner receives a $100 Target Gift Card! Please submit photo entries by March 31. The winner will be contacted on April 1 by Oakdale Recreation.

Snowshoe Rentals

Rentals available pending snow conditions | Discovery Center

Take your family and friends snowshoeing in the 200 acres of the Oakdale Nature Preserve. Watch for animal tracks, deer, fox, and birds, even snowshoe angels! Sizes available for both children and adults. $5 for two hours.

Indoor Market

The Oakdale Indoor Market returns to the Oakdale Discovery Center, with a modified, safe market experience. A large group of local vendors will be on a scheduled rotation of the market dates listed above.

Art Discovery Fair

Saturday, March 27 | 10 AM to 3 PM | Discovery Center

Oakdale’s art fair returns with careful measures to ensure social distancing. Change is on the horizon, as displays of local talent and skill reappear at the Discovery Center! Engage with the creators themselves to connect with an unexpected gift. Discover what individuals from the Oakdale art and craft community have been busy creating. Find paintings, photography, woodworking, jewelry, pottery, and more. Seize the moment to shop from and support local artists and crafters.
