COVID-19 Notice

Oakdale Recreation is committed to following current Minnesota Department of Health and Center for Disease Control guidelines as they pertain to programs and activities. This includes group size, face coverings, and sanitation. To provide a safe and clean environment, we have limited program registrations and on-site participants. Detailed program procedures may be communicated prior to program start date and we will continue to update as more information is released. Email will be the primary form of communication from Oakdale Recreation. We're working toward a great, safe experience for you this spring.

Reserve a picnic shelter for your graduation party, shower, birthday, reunion, or other celebration! Call 651-747-3860 to check availability and make a reservation. Rental fees are due at the time of booking.

Easter Bunny with kids

SOLD OUT! Mystery Egg Hunt

Saturday, April 3 | 9 AM – 12 PM | Discovery Center
 
Find a hidden egg along the trails of the Oakdale Nature Preserve and redeem it for a special prize! Participants will stop along stations after finding their egg. The event this year has been modified to take place outdoors to minimize physical contact. Please register for a 30 minute time slot between the times of 9 AM to 12 PM. All registered participants will receive correspondence a week prior to the event with specific details. Registration is now full. $12 per child, parents attend free!

Curious Critters Club (Ages 3 to 6)

Select Friday mornings | 9:30 to 11 AM | Discovery Center

Children participate in nature themed discussions, play games, watch DVDs, and create projects. Register one week prior to class! $8 per class.

KidCreate Take Home Art Kits

Order now through April 30 | Discovery Center Pickup | Elementary aged kids, but with adult supervision, kits can also be used for preschoolers

At home art kits with online instructional videos are now available from Kidcreate Studio! The kit contains an easy to follow lesson plan, a link to a correlating online instructional video taught by a Kidcreate Studio art teacher, art materials needed to create one fridge-worthy masterpiece and additional suggestions for online learning that relate to the art lesson. Art Kits to choose from:

  • Aurora Borealis (Learn all about the Aurora Borealis, create a mixed media masterpiece)
  • Bunny Bobblehead (Create your very own bunny bobble)
  • Bunny Sunset (Learn to draw little bunnies, paint a warm sun setting sky)
  • Clay Coil Bowl (Use a special clay technique to build a unique creation)
  • Clay Mosaic (Create a mosaic out of air dry clay and beads)
  • Slime Time (Create one of our favorite messy times)
  • Snow Globe (Use several different types of clay along with glitter, beads, and more)
  • St. Paddy’s Day (Learn elements of color theory by painting a rainbow on a real canvas board)

After you've placed your order, kits will be available for pick up the following week beginning on Wednesday. $15 per kit.

FULL: WAITLIST STARTED! Junior Master Gardeners: Seed Starting (Ages 12 and Under)

Saturday, April 24 |10 – 11 AM | Discovery Center

Learn new techniques for growing your own flowers and vegetables from seed. Decorate a flower pot, select the seeds to plant, and then bring your plant home to watch it grow! This class is full, but a waitlist has been started. Free.

Read a story, while taking a stroll through the Oakdale Nature Preserve with your kids! Story Strolls are free, self-guided, and brought to you in partnership with Washington County Libraries. It is a great way to enjoy the park, practice social distancing, and enjoy a great book!

Community Walk participants

Oakdale Nature Preserve Community Walk

Must be Oakdale Resident | Beginning April 1, through October 31 | Oakdale Nature Preserve

Walk your way to less stress, lower weight, better health, and great rewards! It’s easy! Oakdale residents of all ages can participate. Walk the preserve as much as possible, with the ultimate goal of reaching a total of 200 miles to earn a $40 gift card from Target, Hy-Vee, or Kwik Trip. Sign up with your ID (to verify your Oakdale residency) at the Oakdale Discovery Center before your first walk.

Virtual Sundae Bingo

Sunday, April 11 | 1 - 3 PM | Discovery Center

A fun afternoon of BINGO, through the computer screen. Join Oakdale Recreation as we call BINGO via Zoom, for an afternoon of fun and prizes. Registration includes a mailed BINGO card to your address, the ZOOM meeting code link, and a chance at predetermined prizes for every winner! We will play through the full disposable BINGO sheet sent out to all participants. Make sure your address is correct when registering. Winning prizes to be picked up at the Discovery Center. Register before the deadline on April 2. $5.

Volunteers cleaning up a park

Park Clean Up Week

April 26 through May 2 | Choose Your Date and Time | Choose Your Desired Park

Help rid our City of Oakdale parks of the debris and clutter that has accumulated over the winter months by volunteering during Park Clean Up Week! Businesses, scout groups, schools, daycare centers and civic groups are encouraged to participate. Garbage bags are provided and each participant will receive a complimentary thank you gift. To volunteer, please call Oakdale Recreation at 651-747-3860.

Pickleball - Adult Beginner Lessons 

Tuesdays, May 4, 11, 18, and 25 | 6 to 7 PM | Tanners Lake Park

Pickleball is a great workout for all fitness levels. Learn the basics of the game! Equipment will be provided or bring your own. Ages 18 and up. Register by April 27. $25.
