Library Story Time "Vehicles"

Wednesday, April 12 | 10:30 AM | Discovery Center
 
A Washington County Youth Librarian will be visiting for a series of special preschool story times! We’ll have fun talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing together. We will focus on concepts such as counting, colors, sharing, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet. A simple craft will follow. A free program recommended for developmental ages 0 to 5 and their grown-ups.

Junior Master Gardeners: Seed Starting (ages up to 12 years)

Learn new techniques for growing your own flowers and vegetables from seed. Decorate a flower pot, pick the seeds to plant, then bring your plant home and watch it grow! Free.

Winner announced for the Snow Sculpture Contest

15 submissions were received for the 2022-2023 “Upside Down Snowman” contest. All sculptures were judged on appearance, relative to the season’s theme. Congratulations Paul Bednarek and his grandkids for creating the winning sculpture!

Community Walk

April 3 through October 31 | During Park Hours | Oakdale Nature Preserve

Earn rewards for walking! Residents of Oakdale will have the opportunity to explore and walk the 200 acre nature preserve and record their miles. Stop by the Discovery Center after every walk and Oakdale Recreation will record and track your miles throughout the season. The program is for Oakdale Residents only. ID will be required for proof of residency. Before your first walk, stop in the Discovery Center to register. Walkers write down their miles each day they visit, and turn in their mileage using either the indoor or outdoor drop boxes at the Discovery Center. Reach the ultimate goal of walking 150 miles total.

Park Clean Up Week

April 24 through 30 | Oakdale City Parks

Help rid our City of Oakdale parks of the debris and clutter that has accumulated over the months by volunteering during Park Clean Up Week! Businesses, scout groups, schools, daycare centers and civic groups are encouraged to participate. Parks may be cleaned anytime during park clean up week. Garbage bags are provided and each participant will receive a complimentary thank you gift. To volunteer, please call Oakdale Recreation at 651-747-3860.

ACTIVITIES FOR ADULTS

Yoga 

Tuesday or Thursday Mornings | 9 to 10 AM | Discovery Center

Yoga taught by Jennifer Brandt, Registered Yoga Teacher and Certified Yoga Therapist at Body and Mind Yoga Therapy www.bodyandmindyogatherapy.com.  

Develop a strong and flexible spine, increase comfort and mobility in your joints, and build strength and balance in a safe way in this all-levels yoga class. Classes focus on each student's own internal experience rather than achieving an external appearance. Every class will include movement and guided breathing woven together. Most classes will have an element of meditation, chanting, and guided self-exploration. 

 Tuesdays | 9 to 10 AM 

  • 6-week series, Session 2 ($95) 

April 18; May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 

Thursdays | 9 to 10 AM 

  • 6-week series, Session 2 ($95) 

April 13, 20; May 4, 11, 18, 25 

Register for a session before the deadline prior to start of session. Or, drop in at the Discovery Center front desk to try any yoga class for only $18 per single date.

Friday, April 21 | 11 AM to 2 PM | Discovery Center

Join local artist Sandy Danus of Cheerful Hearts Studio as she leads you through a fun and inviting, acrylic paint class. Learn a new skill and have a great time! All supplies are included and our cheerful, step by step instruction is easy to follow, even if you have never picked up a paint brush before. Come away with your own beautiful finished canvas creation that you can be proud of. Deadline to register is April 14. $30.

Adult Road Trip | Sidekick Theater: “Incident at Our Lady of Perpetual Help” play

Travel back to 1973 with the O’Shea family during this boisterous comedy that explores first love and the power of family. Fee includes lunch, school bus transportation to Bloomington and admission. Registration and refund deadline is April 10. $80.

Wednesdays at 9 AM . No registration is necessary to join these weekly walks.

Essentrics Classical Stretch

Tuesdays, April 11 and 18 | 10:30 to 11:30 AM | Discovery Center | Bring a mat for this stretch and strength class (via DVD). No registration necessary.
