Construction has begun on this year’s Street Improvement Project. The contractor has split the project into four areas for coordination and scheduling.
- Area 1: 46th Street N, 47th Street N, 48th Street N and 49th Street N (From Hadley Avenue N to the East) Area 1 Map
- Area 2: Hadley Avenue N from 40th Street N to 50th Street N Area 2 Map
- Area 3: Oakdale Nature Preserve Trail Reconstruction Area 3 Map
- Area 4: North Fire Station Parking Lot Reconstruction Area 4 Map
Improvements on Hadley Avenue N include miscellaneous storm sewer repairs, spot curb and gutter replacement, full asphalt replacement, street light replacement and bike trail reconstruction on the west side of Hadley Avenue N.
The improvements in the residential areas east of Hadley Avenue N include miscellaneous storm, sanitary and water main repairs, spot curb and gutter replacement, street light replacement and full asphalt pavement replacement.
Dresel Contracting is the contractor for this project. They have successfully completed many similar local projects. All project work is scheduled to be completed by the end of September.
Current and Planned Work
Area 1: 46th Street N, 47th Street N, 48th Street N and 49th Street N (From Hadley Avenue N to the East)
- Spot curb and gutter removal in the area will be complete today (Thursday, May 30) aside from a few miscellaneous areas that will be poured later in the project.
- The street surface is scheduled to be removed mid-week the week of June 3. The contractor will grind up the existing road using a reclaimer which will leave a gravel surface that can be driven on immediately afterwards. There will be no on-street parking during the removal process. Residents will be notified prior to work taking place in the area.
- The street will be prepared for paving later the week of June 3. This should take a few days, and there will be no on-street parking during this process.
- The initial base lift of asphalt is scheduled tentatively for the week of June 10. You will be able to drive on the new asphalt as soon as it is rolled (within 10 to 15 minutes of it being paved). Again, there will be no on-street parking during the paving process.
- Topsoil and sod crews will be in to restore any disturbed areas once the base lift of asphalt is complete.
- For those with irrigation damage, the contractor is currently scheduling an irrigation crew to fix any damaged or broken heads/lines from the curb removal process. Do not hire your own contractor to fix your irrigation issues as the City will not reimburse anyone for doing so.
Area 2: Hadley Avenue N (40th Street N to 50th Street N)
- Reclaiming of the trail on the west side of Hadley Avenue is planned the week of June 3. This will leave a gravel surface that can be walked/driven on immediately afterwards.
- Spot utility repairs will begin the week of June 10. Please be mindful of additional traffic control and construction crews while driving through the area.
Area 3: Oakdale Nature Preserve Trail Reconstruction
- Work is planned to start after July 8.
Area 4: North Fire Station Parking Lot Reconstruction
- Because of expected rain and weather, the parking lot restoration will begin on the west side of the fire station tentatively beginning late the week of June 3. Emergency vehicles will have access to the building during this process.
Reminders
As construction progresses, please use caution traveling within the project area. Also, please do not park vehicles on the street from 7 AM to 7 PM within the project area unless instructed to by the contractor to accommodate driveway work. This will help the contractor to work more efficiently and will create a safer work zone. Thank you, as always, for your ongoing patience and cooperation.
