Current and Planned Work
Area 1: Upper 5th Street N (Greenway Avenue N to Grovner Avenue N), 5th Street N, and 5th Street Court N)
- There are now concrete curb stakes installed. Please do not disturb these stakes, as they are essential for curb location and elevation.
- Concrete curb and driveway aprons are planned for the end of the month. Residents will receive more information regarding access and parking before that time.
- The first layer of asphalt is planned for the second week in August.
Area 2: 6th Street N, 4th Street N, 3rd Street N, Grenadier Avenue N, and Gresham Avenue N
- Topsoil and restoration work has begun. Due to the anticipated high summer temperatures, the contractor is temporarily installing hydromulch to protect the exposed topsoil from erosion. Permanent sod will be installed later this summer when conditions are more favorable for its long-term health (estimated mid-August).
- Driveway asphalt patching has occurred. All driveways were patched in two layers. Please note that some driveways were only patched with the first layer. The contractor is planning to come back and finish the patching next week. For those driveways that still need patching, there will be a brief period when access to driveways is restricted due to the paving process. Residents will be able to use driveways after the working day is over.
- The contractor will raise all the valves and manholes to the proposed road grade late next week.
Area 3: 1st Street North and Greystone Avenue N
- Removals for curb and driveways are complete. Please note that there will be a brief period when access to driveways is restricted due to the work. Please be patient with the contractor during this time, as they will be working as quickly as possible to regain access to driveways.
- Temporary water lines are now laid out along the boulevard of the street. Residents should be able to drive over these lines as they are ramped with wood wedges across driveways. The contractor is currently hooking these lines to houses.
- The removal and replacement of the water main will begin on Tuesday, July 22. Please note that there will be a brief period when access to driveways is restricted due to the water main replacement work. Please be patient with the contractor during this time, as they will be working as quickly as possible to regain access to driveways. The water main work will take about two weeks to complete.
- There will be a water shutoff from 8 AM to 3 PM on Tuesday, July 22 to begin the water main replacement. This will be the only time residents won’t have water for the two-week water main replacement window.
Area 4: Grovner Avenue N and Upper 5th Street N (Grovner Avenue N to Hadley Avenue N)
- Removals on Grovner Avenue N are now complete (this excludes Upper 5th Street N, which had spot repair of the curb completed earlier this summer).
- There will be some minor grading of the street later this week. Grovner Avenue N will sit idle until the end of the month where new concrete curb and driveway aprons are planned. Residents will be notified in advance of this work for parking.
Reminders
As construction progresses, please use caution traveling within the project area. Also, please do not park vehicles on the street from 7 AM to 7 PM within the project area unless instructed to by the contractor to accommodate driveway work. This will help the contractor to work more efficiently and will create a safer work zone. Thank you, as always, for your ongoing patience and cooperation.
