Steering Wheel Locks

In partnership with KIA America and Hyundai Motor America, the City of Oakdale Police department offers free steering wheel locks to Oakdale and Landfall residents that own or lease a 2011 to 2021 Kia or Hyundai vehicle, while supplies last. Vehicles with push-start ignitions are not eligible for the locks.

To receive a lock, residents can stop by the Police department (1584 Hadley Avenue N) during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM) with proof of residency (photo ID/driver’s license or utility bill) and their vehicle key.

City Council accepted donations of steering wheel locks from both companies to provide as a means to prevent vehicle thefts. Thefts among Hyundai and Kia models are on the rise due to an easy method to hot-wire them and a security flaw in some models. In 2022, 17 Oakdale residents who owned Kia or Hyundai vehicles were victims of theft in the City.
